Sorting TiVo's Now Playing List

Did you know you can sort TiVo's "Now Playing List"? You can. This is probably a helpful feature for those who have added additional disk space to their TiVos. It's of marginal use to me, though it's nice to know it's available.

To sort the "Now Playing" list, you first enter the "SORT" sequence, and then enter the sorting mode. When you've chosen the order you want, press the Enter button to exit.

Enter the adorable "SORT" sequence from your remote while viewing the "Now Playing" list.

S -- Slow Play button
O -- Zero button
R -- Record button
T -- Thumbs Up button

Entering this sequence should present you (along with the now familiar "three bings" sound effect) with a message at the bottom of the display that says "Press DISPLAY for sort options." What someone meant to say was "Press ENTER for sort options." Pressing ENTER will present you with the following choices:

  1. Newest (this is the way it normally displays the list)
  2. Display the list ordered by expiration date, oldest first.
  3. Display the list alphabetically

While the "Press DISPLAY" message is showing, you can press 1, 2, or 3 to try out that sorting order. Pressing ENTER will prompt you to make one of the choices "permanent." The default is the normal mode that displays the most recent recordings first.
